Jennifer,
have you read the Melendy books, also by Elizabeth Enright? There are four in the series, starting with The Saturdays, both my daughters and I have read and enjoyed them. Eleanor Estes has written a series about a family called the Moffats, which is also an enjoyable series. A bit different but definite favourites of mine are Kate Seredy's books The Good Master and The Singing Tree. Happy reading.

This was my 8-year-old daughter's favorite read of the summer! She loved it. She (and I) love these kinds of books, too. I'd love to know others that y'all have enjoyed in this vein. I have some of the others that we've enjoyed in my Elem. Books category.
